Riding for Life 2007

The Malaysian AIDS Foundation will be organizing the Riding for Life 2007 to raise funds for its Circle of Hope campaign which supports:

Paediatric AIDS Fund- currently supporting 280 children aged below 13 years old who is either infected of affected (one parent living with HIV and in most cases orphan). We provide them with their day-to-day expenses (RM100 each month) and for those who are positive we provide them travelling fee to hospital for their periodic checkups.

Medicine Assistance Scheme- We provide 2nd line medications when their 1st line failed (1st line provided by hospital). 2nd line medications are the expensive ones- example: Kelatra cost RM923 per bottle a month. We are currently supporting 60 patients who could not afford their 2nd line medications and we have a long list of patients waiting to get sponsored.

Business Assistance Scheme: We provide a small interest free loan of RM2,000 to People Living with HIV/AIDS and their immediate family so they can help support themselves as many of them are not able to get permanent job. This year we had given 4 loans and estimate another 6 for 2007.
Currently the above need at least RM2 million to sustain.

The Riding for Life will be held from 1-3 Dec in conjunction with WORLD AIDS DAY. The ride will be from Putrajaya to Malacca.

The tentative agenda for the ride:

We hope some Northern riders will be able to come join us for this campaign- please help us to spread the words around.

REPORT: Junjung XC

DATE - 30/09/2007

DISTANCE - approx. 12km

START - 0830

END - 1100

WEATHER - Fair

RIDERS - approx. 20

REPORT:
Ride started at a very good location. Stream nearby provides riders access to water to clean up bikes after the ride. Ride was quite tough as riders have to ride steep uphill on the 2ft wide trail. Trail was mainly dirt but was very clear and clean around rubber plantations and minor forest. There was no specific peak point because nobody acctually rememberd the trail well and there were lots of branches/junctions, so some parts were just trials and errors! Eventually riders met back up at a junction and rode back. Major part of the ride back was downhill, and again on the 2ft wide trail. Some riders were very careful while those with GUTS rode down furiously.

RATING
Trail - 8/10
(Tough uphills, challenging and fast downhill)
Difficulty - 7/10
(Uphill was gruelling and downhil requires a lot of bike control)
Fun - 8/10
(Cooling scenery, smooth trail)

OTHER
- While waiting for other riders, 2 riders took a rest under a tree unaware of the bee hive above them. Well, you know what happened next... Ouch!!

REPORT : Batu Kawan XC

DATE - 23/09/2007

DISTANCE - 11km+

START - 0830

END - 1200

WEATHER - Fair

RIDERS - approx. 20

REPORT:
Ride was fun overall. No major uphills or downhills. Although trail was not as clear as expected, riders managed to clear the trail and ride on. Some fallen logs and tall grasses covered the trail. At one point, riders have to work together to bring down bikes from a 2 metre dirt cliff.

RATING
Trail - 7/10
(Lots of branches, thorns, fallen logs.)
Difficulty - 6/10
(Easy uphill and downhill)
Fun - 7/10
(A lot of teamwork required to clear up the trail)

OTHER
- Thanks to Chicken Sim for bringing us orange juice!!!
